You can make a difference by participating in Steering Committee public meetings. Read on to hear how a local Offut Lake resident recently made a positive contribution to our lake’s work plan…
At the Steering Committee’s May 14th in-person meeting, community member Jody McInturff asked important questions about the herbicide Imazapyr that was in our draft IAVMP work plan for treating lily pads. In that discussion Kyle Langan, from Aquatechnex, agreed with Jody’s concerns and he proposed a different herbicide (Imazamox/ClearCast) which he felt had less issues on exposed sediments compared to Imazapyr. Kyle said he uses ClearCast instead of Imazapyr at all the other LMDs in Thurston County. The committee voted to change to this safer herbicide. This change would not have happened without Jody’s involvement in the discussion. Thanks to Jody for getting involved and helping us improve our work plan!
