Our intrepid survey team took off at 10:30am Monday morning, May 13, 2024, to start this year’s monthly lake weed survey. We were surprised to see so many weeds so early in the season. These surveys will happen monthly from May through September which will provide good factual data for comparison over time.
We use GPS latitude and Longitude to mark the survey points, 28 in all. This provides scientific consistency for comparing each month’s survey. At each GPS location we notate the:
- Depth
- Species of each weed identified
- Dominance level of the weed in this location
- Lake bottom
- Distance to shore from the sample point
Here are the Dominance Levels used in the survey
4 = Thick, Excludes Others
3 = Nearly Mono-Specific Patches
2 = Few, Wide Patches
1 = Few, in 1-3 Locations
T = Trace (1-3 Plants)
The OLMD Steering Committee has been committed from its inception to doing the necessary research to gather factual information about the state of our lake. We are also committed to distributing information with transparency through our public website and E-mail list (Note: Anyone can join the
