Weed Treatments

Before any weed treatments can begin, the County requires that a treatment notification notice be mailed to all impacted shoreline parcel owners. According to County rules: “These notification cards are required to be delivered 10-42 days prior to any treatment, before the first treatment of each year. If the notice explains the application schedule for the entire treatment season and there is no deviation from that schedule, Ecology requires no further notice for the rest of the treatment season.”
The Treatment Notice includes a Treatment Map, control zones, target weeds, and herbicides to be used. In addition, Aquatechnex, our herbicide contractor, will post treatment signs on properties near treatment zones as required by Thurston County. Our LMD and our contractor follow with all State and County health and safety procedures and notifications as delineated in the Aquatic Plant and Algae Management General Permit (APAM LINK).
Expected Results
The overall goal for weed management is control not elimination. Eliminating all the weeds in our lake would make for an unhealthy and unnatural ecosystem. Weeds play an important role in the health of our lake. It is only when we have invasive weeds or native weeds that reach unhealthy densities and impede recreational use that control is deemed necessary.
