August Weed Survey

Special guest Commissioner Wayne Fournier joined our intrepid crew on August 1st for our monthly lake weed survey. Using GPS and latitude and longitude, our crew records the weeds found, and their levels of dominance, at the same approximate location each month. Our monthly surveys allow us to view growth trends.

Fragrant Waterlily and Yellow Flag Iris are considered noxious weeds by the Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board. Native aquatic weeds that have Dominance Levels of 3 or 4 are considered to be at nuisance levels. Our coming Integrated Aquatic Vegetation Management Plan (IAVMP) will detail the various options for dealing with both noxious weeds as well as native weeds at nuisance levels.

Here is the chart that we use to determine the Dominance Level of weeds we find…

Click HERE to view a graph that shows how many places we found noxious weeds as well as nuisance native weeds at Dominance Levels of 3 and 4 from May through August 2024. Notice how Water nymph was found in just two places in May and 16 places in August.

You are all invited to a public meeting in September to give your input as we create our plan for dealing with aquatic weeds. Watch our website and your inbox for when the date is announced. We want your input!
